California IPA links docs with virtual health record
Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz County, a California-based independent physician organization and the lead participant in the Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange, has deployed a community-wide virtual health record for its physicians. PMG implemented the Elysium Virtual Health Record from San Jose, Calif.-based Axolotl Corporation to its 300 physicians, linking them to patient data at the point of care.

Illinois hospital extends Internet access to patients, visitors
Peoria, Ill.-based Proctor Hospital has implemented Wandering WiFi’s wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) service for its public wireless networks throughout its main hospital campus, including sections of an adjoining physicians’ office building. The new network grants hospital visitors and patients complimentary wireless Internet access.

CCHIT speeds certification development
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) plans to accelerate its development of advanced technology certification programs to include clinical decision support, interoperability, quality and security in the upcoming 2009-2010 development cycle. Clinical decision support and security were not scheduled for completion until 2011.
